Introduction

​

My name is Joe (Joseph) M Calderon, Jr. a retiree, 5'7, 145, 22.7 BMI, married with children, two sons, Joey, an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC)) with the U.S. Navy Seal Team 8, Christopher, a Systems Engineer with Microsoft. My grandchildren are two girls and two boys, the oldest is Tiyanna, 22, Michael, 16, Victoria 14, Alex 3, and another on the way. They bring immeasurable joy to both my wife, Dorie and I. We were initially from San Jose, California. Upon our retirement, 2004 and 2005 respectively, we downsized our household since we were empty-nester, and moved into a two bedroom condo in Del Mar, CA to be close to the beaches. The proximity of the beaches is heavenly. However, we soon discovered that neither one of us is suited for condo lifestyle, nosy neighbors, and inept HOA were too much to tolerate, thus, we decided to once again move to a Single Family Home. We found a home in Winchester, California, and we have been living here since 2009.

My Origin

​

My origin is the Philippine Island of central Luzon from a little town surrounded by seawater called Cavite City, located in the historic province of  Cavite.  It is one among the several roots of the Philippine independence movement. The heart of the city is the Spanish citadel of  Porta Vaga, where the occupying Spaniards lived. Locals of  Cavite City were a mixture of native Filipinos, Spaniards, and later, Mestizos. These mixture created a dialect that is pidgin Spanish, those who speaks this dialect are referred to as "Chabacanos", it is not derogatory by any means, in fact, to be a Chabacano is to be proud, and is accepted with pride.

Situated within the city were two U.S. Military bases, the U.S. Army Airborne Battalion, and  the U.S. Naval Air Station, Sangley Point. 

​

During World War II, the Spanish citadel was destroyed, the city suffered devastation from both warring parties, American and Japanese.

What I Enjoy

​

I enjoy live Broadway musical shows, easy listening music, spectator sports (The Raiders, The A's and The Sharks), gardening, and fishing, and my four grandchildren.  My dream job is to hardly work at all for more dough.

My Life, My Struggles, My Dream Job

I am a Vietnam era veteran, during the conflict I served with the United States Navy Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB-1) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

​

I was honorably discharged from military service in 1971, settled in Pacifica, CA with my wife, Dorie. I attended college at night while working full time during the day as a computer operator (IBM 360).

​

Overtime, I acquired proficiency with COBOL/VSAM, Assembler Language, Job Control Language (JCL) and the IBM utilities. I was able to transition from computer operator to programmer analyst, and eventually to systems developer.

​

The advent of Personal Computer ushered in new plaforms, new languages, very high level languages. MS-Visual C##, HTML5, CSS, Windows Presentation Form (WPF), Windows, MS Office (Visio, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint), AGFA IMPAX Client, IMPAX Service Tools, Talk-Tech, VISTA-RIS, DICOM, CPRS, IBM Utilities, TSO, ISPF,  CA7-11, UNIX, MVS/JES2, skills that carried me over throughout my 41 working years.

In addition, in 1998 I became a licensed Real Estate Broker #01228369 with the California Bureau of Real Estate, I have been engaged with the real estate practice ever since. 

​

I since added another licenses to my name, Life, Health, Property and Casualty insurance. I am active with Lincoln Heritage Insurance.
